Is it worth spending a lot more for a THX certified processor / pre-amplifier?
I'm building my future home theater gradually and soon my processor / preamplifier together with the amplifiers will be the next purchase. I just want to know who really make a difference if you buy a processor that has all features Dolby Digital and DTS to date rather than one that has things exactly the same except carries the THX Ultra logo. I noticed one Once a product has a THX certification logo on it, the price blows up another thousand dollars or even more, why is that, the products with THX certified really better in sound quality
THX Ultra is the way forward. But you should know that the higher end manufactures shun certification THX although he could pass these tests. THX was invented by a guy named Tomlinson Holman, who is no longer part of THX, has started a new company called HMT (some call WR 10 years later). Now is emphasizing (I agree by the way) certified installer grade. This means that any computer Once installed and calibrated THM could become certified. This is much preferable because even a THX-certified piece of equipment could be wrong installed (by Best Buy / Circuit City hacks) and hence the terrible sound. would have in the past few years watching the THX logo as a seal of George Lucas a good maintenance approval. Just a bonus. Make sure you listen first and if you see the logo to go Whoopee. But neither my Krell and Martin Logan team is THX certified frig-gin and tell Ken-wood with THX Ultra any audiophile would sound better and to respect slap in the face for that kind of comment. In short, is a small factor in a much bigger decision.
